Natalie C. Jones

I love most forms of art and have always liked to sketch and paint. Most often my medium of choice is watercolour pencil. It allows for many of the freedoms and unexpected results of watercolours while at the same time offers the great precision and control of a coloured pencil.

The watercolour pencil offers more vibrancy than straight forward watercolours do and I love colour! Some artists who inspire me most are the Impressionists and Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven.

Growing up in northern Cape Breton, I was surrounded by artists of every sort -  oil and watercolour painters, potters, jewelry designers, glass blowers, photographers and, of course, musicians. It was hard not to be inspired and encouraged to pursue my artistic creativity. Also the rugged beauty of the area and the extraordinary fall foliage were an endless source of nourishment to get the creative juices flowing.  Once they start, they continue to need a venue of expression. No matter which locale I reside, I continue to find something that sparks an interest and fosters a need for self-expression.

After taking my first watercolour pencil course at the ArtMad Studio I was hooked on this new media. When a small group of like-minded artists, each with their own choice of media, decided to join together for common studio time, it provided me a consistent time in which I could pursue my interest as an “ArtMad Artist”. In a relaxed atmosphere amongst friends, we give critical advice and support each other in our individual pursuit of the creation of art.
