Maggie Madden

I dabbled in painting in my early twenties, but then life intervened. It wasn’t until my artist husband decided, many years later, to open an art store here in Canada that I rediscovered the joys of painting, as I attended a whole series of art classes at our store. I met a great bunch of people and with their help got re-started on the path of art. We call ourselves Art Mad Artists, and I love painting with them

I work mainly in pastels (after attending classes taught at the store by our member Janet Knowles) and watercolour pencil (in which I was guided by the store’s past teacher and group member Bernice Hennessy). I love the freedom of broad strokes and the vibrancy of the colours of soft pastel; watercolor pencil demands more attention to detail, but then, blob, a little bit of water, and the painting comes alive.

I mainly paint scenes from nature, animals (especially cats), objects of special interest to me, whatever catches my eye...
